Messi wants to meet Afghan boy in plastic jersey


Afghan football federation said that star of Barcelona Lionel Messi wants to meet Afghan boy Murtaza Ahmadi whose pictures went viral on in which he was wearing plastic bag jersey.

Five year old Murtaza Ahmadi is a big fan of Lionel Messi but his family could not afford jersey of his favorite player. His elder brother Homayoun made him a blue and white plastic bag shirt with hand written name of Messi on it. Homayoun posted took pictures of Murtaza Ahmadi wearing plastic jersey and posted it on facebook in mid of January.

Lionel’s father Jorge Messi said that the footballer was aware of pictures of his little fan made wave on social media and he wanted to do something for his young fan.

According to Afghan football federation Messi is in communication with federation and wants to meet Murtaza as early as possible but no date and venue is decided yet for the meeting.

It will be a security challenge in arranging the meeting is Afghanistan when Taliban has hold in some areas of Afghanistan. According to Spanish embassy in Kabul, there are strong chances of arranging the meeting in a European destination.

Father of Murtaza admitted that he could not afford to buy a jersey for his son. He also added his son Murtaza had a punctured ball to play with.

Pictures of the boy wearing plastic jersey, made from grocery bags discarded by their neighbour, has touched hearts of  football fans around the world.
